Forest Preserve Activities
Horseback Riding

Horseback riding is permitted at Homer Trails in Homer Township (a 3.2-mile loop) and along the Wauponsee Glacial Trail south of Laraway Road for a distance of 12 miles, to Symerton.

While riding, remember these tips:

  • Remember hikers and skiers also have use of the trail (and cyclists along the Wauponsee Glacial Trail).
  • Use the provided hitching posts for your mount.
  • Please stay on the trail. The designated trail is 10 feet wide and marked with the horse/rider signs.
  • Water from Spring Creek is not suitable for horses. Use water for the pump-handle well at the picnic area for drinking.
  • Use gaits that are appropriate for trail conditions. Galloping your mount is prohibited by Forest Preserve ordinance.
