Whether you are looking for a place to get away from the stress of everyday life or a place where your family can spend an entire day under the sun, Monee Reservoir is your destination.
Monee Reservoir features a 46-acre lake providing fishing and boating opportunities. Free shoreline fishing is available or rent a rowboat from the concessions building by the hour, half-day, or full day. Only Forest Preserve rental rowboats are allowed on the lake; boats are rented April 1-October 31. Boat rental fees are $25/day, $20/half day (maximum 5 hours), and $5/hour.
Groups can enjoy the peaceful setting of Monee Reservoir for a family outing. Three picnic sites can be reserved for large get togethers, or individual tables are available for family picnics on a first-come, first-served basis. The reservoir's open spaces are ideal for such activities as kite flying and bird watching.
The concessions building, open daily except Mondays, offers bait, fishing licenses, and snacks for sale. Additionally, horseshoes, picnic kits, and fishing poles can be rented. Visitors to the site can also enjoy the 2.5-mile hiking trail that loops through a wetland, home to many forms of wildlife.
Fishing licenses are available at the concessions building. Fishing licenses are required for anyone at least 16 years of age who fishes a public Illinois waterway. The cost for Illinois residents is $13.00 for one year and $6.75 for senior citizens. For out-of-state residents, a yearly fishing license is available for $24.50. A daily license is also available for a 24-hour period. A daily license costs $5.50 for both Illinois and out-of-state residents. Photo By Don Morrison |
