"It was a gorgeous day, an enchanting place, and a beautiful wedding." - Preserve Visitor

Visitors to this preserve enjoy easy access to the more than 60-mile I&M Canal State Trail. A short 500-foot path leads to the state trail covered with crushed limestone. After hiking or biking the trail, visitors can picnic under the pavilion surrounded by restored tallgrass prairie, or they can relax at the wildlife observation deck that offers a scenic view of a pond and Rock Run Creek. Green herons, ducks, and beaver are among the wildlife that can be seen.

The preserve also provides access to the Rock Run Trail. This trail follows Houbolt Avenue for .8 miles to the JJC Campus where it skirts around the college and continues northward for 2.8 miles to Mcdonough. A .5 mile spur connect the trail to Jefferson Street. The preserve is open from dawn to dusk to provide access to the trail.
