Volunteer Banquet honors extraordinary contributio - 2005 Volunteers
On April 21, 2006, the Forest Preserve District of Will County honored the contributions of its volunteer workforce, the Prairie People Volunteers, in 2006. This yearly banquet features entertainment, provided at this year’s banquet by the madrigal singers from Joliet Central High School, camaraderie of the 163 who attended, and presentation of awards for achievement.

Those recognized for their contributions were:

The Group Project of the Year went to Eagle Scout candidate Andrew Thompson for a restoration workday at Whalon Lake.

The Outstanding Senior Award went to Jim Wells for volunteering as a trail sentinel.

The Outstanding Team or Group Award went to the Southern Will County Special Education Cooperative.

The Outstanding Family of Volunteers Award went to Mark and Sally Weiclaw, who are together at many workdays and serve as stewards of Messenger Woods.

The Rookie of the Year Award went to Judy Sedlacek, who came to Turtle Lake as an Adopt-A-Preserve client and is taking on added responsibilities as a trail sentinel.

Youth Volunteers of the Year:

Administration Department is Gina Armijo for her work at recruitment booths and special events.
Operation Department is Elizabeth Bennetts from the JCA Key club, who has volunteered for the WTTW Telethon, worked along with the Key Club to clean District sites, and even written an article for the Helping Hands newsletter.

Resource Management is Ben Gauchat for working with his coordinator to take on resource management work at three preserves, taking pictures at the Operation Department’s annual meeting workday, making kites at the Earth Day event, serving as a herald at the Isle Rendezvous, and for working at our National Public Lands Day event.

Public Programs and Education is Nichole Stachnik for her work at special events sponsored by the Public Programs and Education Department as well as with site programs at the Isle a la Cache Museum.
