Current Conditions for Winter Sports

The Forest Preserve offers many opportunities to enjoy the out-of-doors in the winter!

Ice Skating
Both Goodenow Grove and Monee Reservoir have ice skating ponds open to the public. Ice thickness is checked daily and conditions are posted below.

Sledding
Goodenow Grove offers a 20 foot high sledding hill. Visitors can bring their own plastic sleds (no runners allowed) or tubes can be rented at Plum Creek Nature Center, located within Goodenow Grove; a driver's license and $1.00/day/tube fee are required. Warm up inside the Nature Center by the fireplace and enjoy a variety of nature-related exhibits after your sledding adventure. Sled hill conditions are posted below.

Snow Shoeing and Cross-Country Skiing
Monee Reservoir provides a 2.5 mile trail for enjoying the winter landscape; snowshoe rental is available at the Monee Reservoir Concession Center. Visitors are invited to warm up by a wood-burning stove after their trek; concessions are also available. Check on snow shoe conditions below.

Cross-country skiing is available at Monee Reservoir, Goodenow Grove and many other preserves. Click here for information on the many ski trails available.
